James White travel diary, 1849-1850.

Journal kept by James White while sailing from Boston to San Francisco on board the ship Edward Everett, 11 Jan. 1849- 5 July 1850. White traveled with the Boston and California Mining and Trading Joint Stock Company, one of the first organized Boston prospecting firms. He describes his daily routine on the ship, and weather conditions; and his life working in California. The journal also includes a list of men on board, place of residence, occupation, and age.
